New Bern being tagged with graffiti

Police say gang-related graffiti has been appearing on public buildings in New Bern in recent months.

One boy was arrested July 16.

Police said he was found vandalizing abandoned storage sheds in Fox Chase Village, a mobile home community off Neuse Boulevard.

Police said they found the boy with wet paint on his hands holding two cans of spray paint.

He was charged with damage to real property, littering and possession of marijuana.

On July 10 police went to the 1800 block of Durham Street where a boy had defaced the roadway in front of a house. He was arrested and charged with second-degree trespassing and damage to property.

Beth Stevenson, New Bern police spokeswoman, said graffiti is showing up in areas throughout the city.
